Clash of Zombies (also known as X-War: Clash of Zombies or Clash of Zombies: Zombiecraft) drops players into a devastated world where a deadly virus has wiped out most of humanity. To survive the endless waves of the undead, you must build a fortified settlement, research new technologies, and train an army of mutant survivors. The core gameplay loop draws heavy inspiration from classic mobile base builders such as Clash of Clans, which is not a bad thing here. You will spend your time arranging defensive towers, upgrading resource extractors, and launching raids on rival players to steal their loot. What sets it apart is the massive roster of over a hundred collectible heroes, many of which loosely resemble iconic pop culture characters. These heroes can be deployed during attacks or stationed at your base to unleash powerful area of effect skills against invading hordes. In my opinion, it is impossible not to notice that this game borrows heavily from other massive strategy titles, right down to the user interface and base layout mechanics. However, tossing a chaotic mix of copyright skirting superheroes into a zombie apocalypse actually gives it a bizarre, nostalgic charm. If you enjoy the classic formula of waiting for building timers to finish and watching your troops tear through enemy walls, it is an incredibly addictive guilty pleasure to keep on your phone.
