What is Evo Defense: Merge TD?

Evo Defense: Merge TD is a casual Roguelike Tower Defense game developed by Blue Planet Joy Limited. Globally launched in late January 2026, it distinguishes itself with "Triple Randomness" gameplay: random summons, random skills, and random merges. Matches are designed to be fast (approx. 3 minutes), making it perfect for mobile play. You play as a King defending against waves of monsters by building a deck of heroes (Archer, Mage, Support, etc.) and merging them on a grid. It features both a PvE Campaign and a competitive PvP Arena where defeated monsters are sent to your opponent's board.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a full team of S-tier heroes to win?

Not at all. In fact, ignoring class synergy in favor of raw power will likely cost you the match. A balanced loadout that mixes Support units (who generate extra Silver Coins) with AoE Mages or single-target Archers is vastly superior to a poorly synergized board of top-tier damage dealers.

Does a hero's performance change between PvE and PvP?

Yes. For instance, Controllers—who specialize in slowing and freezing enemies—are incredibly valuable in high-level PvE boss stages. In the PvP Arena, however, where defeated monsters teleport directly to your opponent's board, sheer burst damage to overwhelm the enemy quickly often takes priority.

How do Enhancements work during a match?

Enhancements are temporary, roguelike buffs that you buy with Silver Coins during a run. Each time you purchase one, you are offered three random choices. These buffs can drastically change your strategy, so you should always pick Enhancements that synergize with the heroes currently on your board (e.g., choosing flame burst buffs if RNG gave you multiple Fire Mages).

How do I unlock heroes in Evo Defense?

Heroes are unlocked in several ways: through the Hero Recruitment system (easiest!), through daily rewards, and through events. The easiest way to unlock heroes is in the Hero Recruitment section of the shop. To unlock SSR and UR heroes, you have to keep summoning more heroes and level up your Hero Recruitment to level 2 and 4, respectively. As you level the shop up, it gets easier to pull the heroes you want. This also includes the Special system, which lets you gamble for select few heroes and rewards as you keep summoning. Daily rewards as of right now award SSR and UR heroes on the 7th day of logging in (on some weeks!). Events in the game can help you get new heroes based on what is available.

What is the best team in Evo Defense?

It is hard to say what the best team is in Evo Defense as each stage and activity requires different characters to succeed with. While using SSR and UR heroes will likely make it easier, it's not a guarantee. Each stage has enemies that get countered by select characters, such as the Goblin Knight being countered by Knight, Kaka, Shroomie, and Rocket. It's important to choose the right heroes to handle each enemy in a level.
